Shop sells foods on or near best-by date at super-cheap prices - and is thriving

A store chain that sells super-cheap food on or near its best-by date is thriving as hard-up Brits struggle to make ends meet.

Affordable Foods buys groceries that might otherwise be thrown away and sells them for around half the regular price.

Most items are close to, or even past, their best-before date.

Top deals include free-range eggs at 50p a dozen against £1.10 at Sainsbury’s and 85p at Tesco.

Customers are filling school lunch boxes with near-date cereal bars for 10p each and 50p grab-bags of crisps.
