Bushfire warning downgraded for WA town of Toodyay

The fire is burning near the Wandoo Circle subdivision, and residents are advised to leave.

A bushfire burning north-east of Perth has been downgraded from Emergency level.

The blaze in the southern parts of Toodyay, 80 kilometres north-east of Perth, is now at Watch And Act level, but remains a potential threat to lives and homes.

An updated warning has been issued for people between Sandplain Road, Harvester Drive, Toodyay Road and Drummondi Drive, including Wandoo Circle Subdivision.

Residents in these areas who are not prepared to defend their homes are advised to leave now if safe to do so.

According to the Department of Fire and Emergency (DFES), the fire started near the intersection of Toodyay Road and Strahan Road.

It was reported at 4:42pm.

DFES advises:

  • If you are well prepared and plan to actively defend your home, make final preparations now.
  • If you plan to stay and actively defend, do not rely on mains water pressure as it may be affected. You need to have access to an independent water supply, and start patrolling your property to put out spot fires.
  • At all times close all doors and windows and turn off evaporative air conditioners, but keep water running through the system if possible.
  • If you are not at home, do not try to return as conditions in the area could be very dangerous.
