According to the latest NSW Rural Fire Service update, the fire in Tallaganda National Park has burnt out 300 hectares.

But NSW Rural Fire Service district officer Darren Marks said back burning operations, set to take place over the coming days, were expected to increase the size to about 3000 hectares.

Mr Marks said crews would work to get most of the back burning completed before Friday and the fire would not be out before the weekend.

He said local areas would see smoke until then.

There are currently 10 trucks, 35 firefighters, two helicopters and two bulldozers fighting the blaze. The fire is at advice level.

Containment operations are expected to keep the fire within the national park and properties in the nearby township of Hoskintown are not under threat.

The blaze was started on Tuesday by lightning.

Mr Marks said the fire was a "timely reminder" heading into summer.

"We are likely to see more fires in the local area and it's important for people to pay attention, have the fires near me app and have their plan," he said.
