Bushfire in Perth suburb of Jandabup downgraded, under control

A bushfire in Perth's northern suburbs which had been threatening lives and homes was downgraded to an advice alert on Saturday evening.

A bushfire emergency warning had earlier been issued for an area of Jandabup in the City of Wanneroo about 1:30pm.

The fire was burning in an area bounded by Franklin Road, Trichet Road, Rousset Road, Townsend Road and the pine plantation.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services told people there was no longer a threat to lives or homes, but they should be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changed.

The blaze started near the intersection of Sydney Road and Ross Street and burned through 35 hectares.

Some roads in the area were closed and motorists were asked to avoid the area and drive carefully due to smoke.

The fire was contained and under control by early evening, with around 150 firefighters attending the scene.

The fire was being treated as suspicious and police were investigating.

There were no reports of injuries to people or animals, and no reported damage to homes.
