Bushfire threatening outer Geraldton suburb of Wandina downgraded

An emergency bushfire warning for the western part of Wandina, on the outskirts of Geraldton in WA's Mid West region has been downgraded to advice level.

The blaze was initially at emergency level, but was downgraded to a watch and act before being moved to an advice.

Although the fire has been controlled and contained, authorities are urging residents to stay alert in case the situation changes.

The fire started just before 11:30am in Wandina, a southern suburb of Geraldton.(

The blaze started near the intersection of Verita Road and Columbus Boulevard in Wandina, a southern suburb of Geraldton, just before 11:30am.

Motorists are asked to drive carefully due to heavy smoke and avoid the area if possible.
