Bus smashes into railway bridge

A bus has collided with a bridge in West Lothian, ripping its roof off.

Police were contacted today (Tuesday) just after 11.15am about the incident on Shotts Road in Fauldhouse and emergency services arrived at the scene soon after.

There were no injuries and the driver was the only occupant on the bus at the time.

Trains were delayed for a time and the normal 65mph was reduced to 20mph because a portion of the bus roof was still attached the bridge.

A driver was reported to be in a state of shock following the incident.

A spokesperson for bus company, Lothian Country, said: “We can confirm one of our vehicles was involved in an incident earlier today in the Fauldhouse area and we are fully assisting Police Scotland with their enquiries.”

The remnants of the roof was safely removed from the bridge at 1.30pm and train times returned to normal soon after.

Shotts Road was closed at Springhill and Leadloch Road but Police Scotland said the road opened shortly after 2pm.
