A bus shelter was crushed and its roof sent flying into a garden in a suspected hit and run in Burscough.
Burscough Town Council was alerted to the incident opposite Lily Wharf Lodge on Liverpool Road South at 2.45pm today, November 17.
The bus stop sustained £3,500 worth of damage - and is now likely to be out of use until January next year, with a temporary stop being set up in its place.

Town council clerk Jackie Maguire said: "We don't know what has happened exactly. Obviously a big lorry, truck, or something like that has gone past and hit it, and the roof has come off as you can see.
"This is the second time the bus shelter has been demolished in recent years. The last time was cause by a large haulage truck. If nobdoy comes forward, the money to repair it will have to be paid out of the town council's budget. That's £3,500 for the bus shelter, and for the debris to be removed and road made safe is another £350.
"Because this is a substantial amount of money, we will have to get approval from the town council for a replacement, and the next town council meeting will be on December 14. By then Christmas will be pretty much upon us, so it could be early January by the time it's replaced, unless the chairman calls an emergency meeting just to discuss that one item."
Anyone who witnessed the incident involving the bus stop, or who may have CCTV of what happened, is asked to contact the council on jackie.maguire@burscoughtc.org.uk
