Bus plunges onto frozen Siberian river, killing 19

Nineteen people died when a bus plunged off a bridge onto a frozen river in eastern Siberia, Russian officials have said.

Two children, aged about two and four, were among the victims, according to the Siberian Times.

It was reported that 22 other people were injured.

Early investigations indicated that a front wheel of the bus failed as it was crossing a bridge over the Kuenga River.

The bus landed upside down on the ice, collapsing the passenger compartment.

Russian emergency services worked through the night to rescue passengers, with some transported to local hospitals by helicopter.
