SURAT THANI: A bus bound for Nakhon Si Thammarat overturned after skidding off Road 41 in Chaiya district of this southern province, slightly injuring 19 people on board.

Pol Lt Col Anek Mongkol, the deputy superintendent of Chaiya police station, said 15 of the injured were sent to Chaiya Hospital and another four to Tha Chana Hospital. All were released.

The bus, operated by Sri Suthep Tour, had left Bangkok at 8pm on Sunday and was bound for Khanom district in Nakhon Si Thammarat with 36 passengers on board. The accident occurred at 5am.

Driver Somsak Jaijaeng told police a 10-wheeled truck travelling in the left lane suddenly cut in front of him. He swerved to avoid a collision, and the bus skidded into the road median, overturned and hit several trees before coming to a halt.
