Bus operator reveals festive timetable for commuters in East Kilbride in handy new guide

Bus operator First Glasgow has published a handy guide to its festive services on its website early this year to allow passengers to plan their journeys in advance for the Christmas holidays.

Services in Lanarkshire including East Kilbride will operate on a reduced frequency over the festive period and it is important that passengers are aware of any changes and plan their journeys in advance.

Customers are also urged to check the latest Scottish Government advice before travelling around when it is safe to make essential and non-essential journeys.

Customers can now plan ahead for a quieter journey at a time of day to suit them with the innovative new Space Checker app available on the First Glasgow website.

Space checker allows passengers to plan ahead up to a week in advance to see when the bus will be quiet and the best time of day to travel from their local bus stop.

First Glasgow will endeavour to ensure app timetables are up to date, however, advise customers to refer to the website in the first instance ahead of travel for up to the minute information.

First Glasgow Commercial Director Graeme Macfarlan said: “We want to make it as easy as possible for people who need to make essential journeys in Greater Glasgow and Lanarkshire to get around and get to their destinations safely during these unprecedented times.

“The safety of our customers and staff is our number one priority and so we have left no stone uncovered to continue to make sure services have been available when passengers need them throughout the pandemic.

“We continue to innovate with our award winning First Bus app that allows passengers to plan their travel and buy their tickets in advance, track their bus in real time to the bus stop and connect with other modes of transport, all from their phone.

“We wish our customers a very happy and safe festive period, and thank you for your understanding, patience and support over the past year whilst we have continued to deliver essential journeys.”

On Christmas Eve, Thursday, December 24, services M1 - the Hairmyres Hospital circular and 205 Hamilton to Hairmyres Hospital - will operate a normal weekday timetable.

Other services will run on a Saturday timetable.

This will be also in place on December 29, 30, 31 and Monday, January 4, 2021.

But on December 24 and 31 most services will be withdrawn from around 9pm.

There will be no services on Christmas day or New Year's day; on Saturday, December 26 and Sunday, December 27 Sunday timetables will operate on all services.

Sunday timetables will also operate on January 2 and 3, 2021.

Services return to normal on Tuesday, January 5, 2021.
