The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority on Thursday announced it cancelled a planned two-baht increase of air-conditioned bus fares on Oct 15 pending a review by a transport committee.
Acting BMTA director-general Prayoon Chuaikaeo said the planned fare rise was shelved because the Transport Ministry's central land transport control committee would review it.
On Tuesday, he announced the two-baht fare rise on new air-conditioned buses, from 11-23 baht to 13-25 baht depending on travelled distances.
He said that the 13-25 baht rate was an old rate that the transport committee had approved but it was cut by two baht in February 2015 to help reduce the cost of living.
On Thursday, Mr Prayoon said that the fares on old buses would remain unchanged. He referred to ordinary buses charging 6.50 baht, cream-blue air-conditioned buses (10-18 baht) and orange air-conditioned buses (11-23 baht).
