Bus driver slammed door on Muslim woman in hijab who had been to Christchurch vigil

A bus driver is being investigated after he shut the doors on a Muslim woman in a hijab who had just been to a vigil for victims of the Christchurch massacre.

Bosses at the Red Bus company in New Zealand said the worker faces disciplinary action after horrified witnesses saw the "disgusting" action.

Although the bus was only half full, the driver allowed one white woman onto the bus at a stop before closing the door on the woman behind her.

Horrified schoolgirl Roseanne Tia, 15, told Stuff in New Zealand: "We were just in shock, especially after what had happened on Friday."

Roseanne said the woman said she was alright, but was clearly sad.

She had just come from a memorial to remember the 50 people killed in the horrific terror attack on two mosques a week earlier.

She said she and her friends we "so mad" after witnessing the man deliberately close the doors as the woman stepped up.

The schoolgirl added that the Muslim woman had been dropped at the bus stop by a friend, suggesting that she "didn't feel safe".

Her pal Amiria Tikao, also 15, said she was "disgusted".

She said: "This actually is real, people are really racist."

Roseanne, Amira and friend Yasmin Sadlier, 16, reported the driver's shocking behaviour to the bus company after catching the next bus to the company's depot.

The worker now faces action from his employers after bosses reviewed footage of the incident and ruled that the girls were telling the truth.

Red Bus chief executive Paul McNoe told Stuff: "The driver's actions were completely inappropriate, and we are going through a disciplinary process."
