Bus driver seriously injured after being punched in 'unprovoked' assault in south London

Police have released an image of a man they want to speak after an "unprovoked" assault on a bus driver in south London which resulted in a serious eye injury.

The TfL employee was assaulted in Atkins Road, Lambeth, shortly before midday on July 20 when a man boarded the bus he was driving and began punching him in the face.

The 43-year-old driver was on a break at the time of the attack.

He was later treated for serious facial injuries in hospital.

Officers have established that a motorcyclist had earlier been involved in an altercation with the victim at a set of traffic lights.

PC Nick Kortright, from the Met Police's Roads and Policing Command (RTPC), said: “This was a completely unprovoked attack which has left the victim with an eye injury. As a professional driver, this is clearly of significant concern to him.

“I would urge anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV stills to contact us.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the RTPC via 101 or tweet@MetCC.
