Bus driver scoops up fainting schoolgirl in his arms to carry her home

An ex-soldier turned community bus driver came to the rescue when a schoolgirl collapsed on her way to school.

Elly Noone, 13, had just boarded the Eazibus 73 near her home in Higher Bebington, Wirral, when she suddenly passed out. Regular bus driver Dave Ferns left the bus to accompany her the short distance home, but when she couldn't walk the ex-Cheshire Regiment soldier scooped her up in his arms and carried her the rest of the way to her front door.

Grateful mum-of-five Lyndsay Beal, said Dave had been an "absolute star." She added: "Dave has been driving my girls to school for the past couple of years and he's the best bus driver ever.

"Elly had just left for school at 7.20am as she usually does to catch the bus. Ten minutes later, the doorbell rang and there was Dave with Elly in his arms. He said she'd just got on the bus and had started to feel dizzy and then collapsed.

"He tried to walk her home but when she began to feel faint he carried her in his arms the rest of the way. When I opened the door she was as white as a sheet and freezing cold.

"I was in shock and very concerned to see the way she looked. I said 'oh my God, what's happened?' Dave said she'd just passed out on the bus and brought her home because she couldn't go to school like this. We don't live far from the bus stop so then he went back to drive the bus.

"About 10 minutes later she was absolutely fine and bright as a button."

Lyndsay said Dave was well-known to them as he'd been driving the bus for the past two years, which Elly uses to get to Pensby High School via Heswall.

Fortunately Elly showed no long-lasting ill-effects after collapsing, said her mum.
