Bus driver called police after refusing to let blind woman board with guide dog

A blind woman has hit out after she was told she couldn't board a bus with her guide dog.

Louise Pearson described the incident, which happened in Melbourne, Australia, as "very distressing".

The driver - who called police - has been "stood down" by bus company Dysons as a result.

It led to an hour-long standoff.

Ms Pearson said she told the driver her golden Labrador was a guide dog, but he would not accept it.

She told radio station 3AW: "I have a golden Labrador guide dog called Arthur, and I stepped onto the bus and said 'this is a guide dog',

And she continued during the incident: "We've been sitting here for the last 50 minutes because he says it's not a guide dog."

She said she "can't believe in this day and age that we have this sort of nonsense going on," The Age reports.

Australia's Department for Transport said the bus company would be given extra training to ensure it doesn't happen again.

Dysons group manager Paul Giusti said there had been a "misunderstanding".

“Dysons unreservedly apologises for any inconvenience caused to the passenger, and others on the bus," he added.
