Bus driver racially abused by group of teens boarding without valid tickets in Wallsend

A bus driver was racially abused by a group of teens after they attempted to board without valid tickets.

A group of up to 10 teenagers attempted to board the number 12 bus near Wallsend Metro Station, on Station Road, at around 7.30pm on February 14, which was travelling to Walker.

When it became clear the teens, who were thought to be between ages 11 and 15, did not have valid tickets, the bus driver challenged the individuals who then racially abused him. The victim was left distressed by the incident and contacted police.

Northumbria Police are investigating the suspected hate crime and have identified two individuals they would like to speak to.

One individual is described as a white male, of medium build, with short, dark brown or black hair styled in a centre parting. He is thought to be between the ages of 12 and 15.

He was wearing a black hooded puffer jacket with a white logo on the left upper chest area.

Another individual is described as a white male and of small build. He was wearing a black hooded puffer jacket with the hood up. He is thought to be between the ages of 11 and 14.

They were in the area at the time and could have valuable information which may assist the investigation.

The individuals, or anyone with information, are asked to contact police via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website or by calling 101 quoting crime number 019670U/23.
