A bus driver had to call 999 after witnessing a woman punch, kick and spit on her partner during a drunk row.
Carol Brown had been out drinking with her partner Garry McCauley on September 25, but as the couple made their way home, Brown turned aggressive and started attacking her partner.
At Paisley Sheriff Court, the 54-year-old admitted assaulting her partner shortly before 11pm on September 25, in the town’s Old Sneddon Street.
Procurator fiscal depute Jason Stark told the court: “A bus driver on Old Sneddon Street observed the couple and noted that Brown appeared to be drunk and unsteady on her feet.
“The couple appeared to be having an argument.
“The bus driver looked out of his vehicle and observed Brown lash out with her hands and legs, punching and kicking Garry McCauley’s body.
“He then observed the accused and Mr McCauley further down the road where she continued to lash out with her hands and legs and aim spital at him.
“Mr McCauley attended at the bus and requested police were contacted. The driver called 999 and police attended.
“Brown was traced and was visibly upset and crying. Officers noted she was slightly intoxicated. She stated she just wanted to go home.
“At 11.50pm, she was cautioned and charged and made no reply.”
Defence agent Manus Tolland told the court there was a “background” to this incident.
He explained the pair had been out drinking together on this day and were heading home when the incident unfolded.
He said: “Since this, Ms Brown has voluntarily attended alcohol counselling and the pair intend to resume their relationship once this is resolved.”
Mr Tolland urged for reports to be prepared and further mitigation was reserved.
Sheriff Laura Mundell said: “You appear in court today with no previous convictions but you now have quite a serious conviction for domestic assault.”
Sheriff Mundell deferred sentencing for the preparation of a criminal justice social work report and a restriction of liberty order assessment.
Brown, of Castle Mansions in Gourock, will return to court on November 17 for sentencing.
Consideration of a non-harassment order was continued until the same date.
