Bus driver covered in glass after thug throws brick through window in Dundee

A bus driver was showered with glass when a thug threw a rock through his windscreen.

The attack was the second in a week to happen near to Orchar Park, Broughty Ferry, Dundee.

There were around 20 people on the Number 73 bus from Dundee to Arbroath when the incident occurred on Thursday, February 20 at around 10pm.

The missile appeared to have been thrown from the direction of the park on Monifieth Road.

The driver was unhurt but left in a state of shock.

Passengers were escorted from the bus and forced to wait in the cold and rain for a replacement bus service.

One passenger said: "There was an almighty thud then the bus driver pulled over.

"He was clearly shaken and was covered in glass as he got out of his cabin.

"There was a large hole in the windscreen inches from where he had been sitting.

"He said it was at exactly the same place where another bus was attacked a few days ago."

In the previous incident on Monday night, a driver suffered minor injuries.

There was also a similar attack in December 2018.

Police Scotland Sergeant Chris Grieve said: “This was a reckless act which could have had far more serious consequences.

"I would urge anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident to let us know.”

A spokesperson for Stagecoach East Scotland said: "We have had three incidents this week involving an object being thrown from a car at the windscreen of our vehicles.

"Fortunately, our drivers have only sustained minor injures and we are working with the police on their investigation.

"Safety is our utmost importance and we take acts of vandalism like these very seriously.

"As such we are currently reviewing arrangements for the route over the weekend."
