Bus driver assaulted by group of youths after confrontation in Heaton

A bus driver was viciously assaulted by a gang of youths after a confrontation on Monday night, police have confirmed.

The driver was left with bumps and bruises after being attacked on Simonside Terrace in Heaton, Newcastle , at around 9.30pm.

A manhunt is now under way to trace the group responsible - and police are asking any witnesses or people who know the perpetrators to come forward.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 9.30pm yesterday (Monday), police received a report of an assault on Simonside Terrace, Newcastle.

“It was reported that a group of youths had assaulted a bus driver following a confrontation.

“The driver suffered bumps and bruises but was not seriously injured. An investigation has been launched to trace those responsible.

“Anyone who witnessed the assault or knows anyone involved is asked to contact 101 quoting reference 1102 071019 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
