Bus crashes into electricity pole wiping out power in South Dublin

A bus crash wiped out power to a number of homes in South Dublin on Wednesday evening after colliding with an electricity pole.

A source told Dublin Live that the bus, a Go-Ahead number 18 bus headed to Sandymount, collided with a electricity pole outside Harold's Cross Primary School on Clareville Road.

Thankfully, Gardai confirmed there were no injuries to report, as there were no passengers on the bus at the time of the accident.

"There is significant damage to the front of the bus," the source said.

"It's going to be a write off."

A Garda spokesperson told Dublin Live: "Gardaí attended the scene of a traffic collision in Harold’s Cross this evening, Wednesday 28 October 2020.

"A bus collided with a pole on the Clareville Road causing material damage to both the vehicle and the pole.

"No injuries were reported by the driver. No passengers were on board.

"Inquiries are ongoing."

A repair job was immediately underway to get power back on, with an estimated repair time of 10:45 according to the ESB's PowerCheck facility.

Dublin Live has contacted Go-Ahead Ireland for comment.
