First bus crashes into car wash roof in Emersons Green

Striking pictures show the scene after a double-decker First bus crashed into a car wash roof this morning (May 30).

Police have confirmed that no-one was injured in the collision at Downend Car Wash, Westerleigh Road, Emersons Green, which was reported at 10.40am.

An employee at the neighbouring Huntsman pub did not see the crash, but expressed surprise at the event.

“I’ve no idea how he could have done that,” said the employee, who wished to remain anonymous.

He added: “Looking at it, you can see what happened - he’s taken the wrong right turning. He meant to take the turn at the traffic lights and he’s taken the turn there.”

A First West of England spokesman said: “A number 48 bus struck the canopy of a car wash in Downend earlier today.

"There was only a single passenger and the driver on board and no-one was injured in the incident. The bus has now been recovered to the depot and a full investigation into the circumstances of the incident has begun.

"The safety and well-being of our passengers, drivers and the public are our number one priority and First West of England are working to make the site safe.”

Also this morning, armed police have been in Keynsham and Hanham.
