Bus company resumes some services after two drivers hit with Covid-19

A bus company which suspended its services after two drivers were hit with Covid-19 has started to reintroduce more buses to its timetable.

CT4N stopped all buses indefinitely on Saturday, April 11, which included the Medilink bus used to take patients and staff to and from the Queen's Medical Centre and City Hospital.

The company, which is the operating arm of Nottingham Community Transport, decided to take the drastic action after a driver was admitted to hospital with coronavirus symptoms.

Trade Union RMT, which represents bus drivers, said the driver has been released from hospital and is now resting at home.

Another CT4N driver, Andy Howe, 48, of Nuthall, died from the virus on Thursday, March 26.

Last week, a number of services were reintroduced to the timetable including:

- Service 18, which will operate hourly between Stapleford, Beeston, Beeston Rylands, QMC and the city centre.

- East Midlands Gateway Shuttle.

- Notts County Council school services - 601, 606, 611 and 710.

- Easylink – demand responsive service.

CT4N said it was grateful to Nottingham City Council for stepping in and providing cover for the Medilink service while the new cleaning measures were carried out.

On Monday, April 27, the company has decided to reintroduce further services.

Ian Combellack, managing director of CT4N, said: "Following two cases of Covid-19 amongst its driving staff and with concern for staff welfare, the management of CT4N took the painful decision over the Easter weekend to suspend its operations, to give it time to review all its sanitisation and safety arrangements.

"I am pleased to announce the re-introduction of more services which will include some of the Locallink services.

"We are aware that a number of people rely on these services so that they can get to work.

"Furthermore, our Easylink service is also available for areas that are not currently being served by the Locallink network."

The services are:

- Locallink services L2, L4 and L9

- Worklink service W1

- Nottinghamshire County Council services L73, L74 and L75

-Derbyshire County Council services 14 and 29
