Bus carrying Ukrainians overturns in Italy killing one and leaving dozens injured

A bus carrying around 50 Ukrainian nationals has overturned in Italy, killing a young woman and leaving several others injured, according to local reports.

Two coaches full of Ukrainians had reportedly been travelling along the highway between Cesena and Rimini, on the north eastern coast when one vehicle went off the road, fire fighters said on Sunday.

Pictures posted by the fire fighters on Twitter show the overturned bus, while rescue operations remain underway.

Tragically, crews are now working to remove the body of a young woman from the crash, local media site Cronache Della Campania reported.

The news site added that the accident was reported shortly before 6.45am local time, on the A14 motorway.

The bus was reportedly headed for Pescara in the north east of the country.

On Saturday, (March 12) more than 13,000 people fled Ukraine using humanitarian corridors as Russian troops began driving west.

New satellite images have shown the sheer scale of devastation so far.

The aerial before and after pictures of the port city of Mariupol have revealed its transformation from a "beautiful" city with luscious trees and new infrastructure to a flattened wasteland.

President of Ukraine, Volodymir Zelensky warned that some small towns and villages "no longer exist" as a result of the conflict.

But the determined leader, who has not left the capital of Kyiv for the last 18 days said that Russians would face a fight to the death before they could claim the city.

On Saturday he claimed Putin's men would have to "raze Kyiv to the ground" before taking control.

In the east of Ukraine, the Russian forces had encircled Mykovail on Sunday morning before reportedly focussing their efforts to move west towards Odessa.

Russia launched an eight missile strike on a Ukrainian military base just 15 miles from the border with Poland, as fears escalated over the conflict creeping towards the west.

The attack was the westernmost of the war so far.

On Saturday, France's President, Emmanuel Macron claimed Putin was "not willing to make peace" after a 75-minute call with Germany's Olaf Scholz and the Russian aggressor failed to find "a way out of the war".

The US said it was rushing up to $200 million USD in additional small arms, anti-tank and anti-aircraft weapons to Ukraine.

But in a chilling warning to the west a Russian official claimed on Saturday that arms shipments from the west would now be "legitimate targets", as the Kremlin condemned arming Ukraine.
