Bus bursts into flames on busy Scots road as thick black smoke seen from ‘miles away’

A single-decker bus has been completely engulfed in flames after catching fire on a busy road in Fife.

Emergency services were called to the ‘fireball’ on Kilmany Road, Wormit, at around 4.42pm on Friday.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they are currently in attendance on the B946 with two appliances battling the flames.

Motorists are being urged to avoid the area while local reports claim thick plumes of smoke can be seen from ‘miles away.

A shocking image from the scene shows the fierce blaze taking hold of the Moffat & Williamson vehicle.

The bus company confirmed no passengers were on-board and that the driver had escaped uninjured.

A spokesman said: "We can confirm there has been an incident in Kilmany Road, Wormit this afternoon. Emergency services were in attendance.

"No passengers were on board and there were no injuries reported.

"Safety is our absolute priority, and we are carrying out a full investigation into the cause of the incident."

A Police Scotland spokesperson added: "We were alerted to the report of a bus on fire in Kilmany Road in Wormit at around 5.12pm this evening.

“The Fire and Rescue Service were in attendance.

"Officers were dealing with traffic related matters at the scene."
