A semi-trailer and a coach have crashed on the Snowy Mountains Highway at Providence Portal, south-east of the Kosciuszko National Park.

Emergency services were called to the scene just after midday where paramedics treated three people, including the truck driver, who was taken to Cooma Hospital with minor injuries.

A further two people who were on the bus, which was carrying 33 passengers, were also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Snowy Mountains Highway between Tantangra Road and Providence Portal is expected to remain closed for several hours.

A Rural Fire Service spokesperson confirmed the vehicles were travelling in opposite directions at the time of the incident.

New South Wales Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash.

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area.
