Bus and police car in rush hour crash in Birkenhead town centre

A road was been closed after a crash involving a bus and a police car this morning.

A bus passenger has been taken to hospital as a result of the crash just before 8am.

Merseyside Police urged motorists to avoid the area after the crash at the junction of Argyle Street and Hinson Street in Birkenhead at 7.50am.

Police confirmed a passenger on the bus had attended hospital "to be checked over" after the crash.

No other injuries were reported.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said the officers were responding to a "domestic related incident."

The spokesperson said: "At around 7.50am today (Thursday 25 March) a police vehicle and bus were involved in a collision at the junction of Argyle Stree t and Hinson Street.

" One passenger on the bus has attended hospital to be checked over as a precaution and no further injuries have been reported."

Road closures remained in place whilst the collision is investigated and drivers were advised to avoid the area.

Travel monitors INRIX had warned motorists: "Argyle Street in Birkenhead is closed both ways closed following an accident between Market Street and Conway Street."

The closures have since been lifted.
