Bury vaccine centres deliver 35,000 Covid-19 jabs as council issues call to borough's most vulnerable

Bury's most vulnerable have been urged to contact their GP if they have not been invited for their Covid-19 vaccination.

Vaccination centres have now administered around 35,000 jabs throughout the area, according to the council.

It means almost a fifth of those eligible have now received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine

The majority of groups deemed most at risk - everyone 70 and above and clinically extremely vulnerable people over 16 - have now either had their jab or have an appointment booked.

But anyone who falls into those categories and has not been invited for a vaccination has been urged to contact their GP.

The latest figures, released today (February 10), do not include jabs administered at hospitals or mass testing sites.

Bury's first vaccination centre opened in Prestwich on December 15, and around 300 people received a jab on the first day.

A further three clinics have since opened across the borough - at The Elizabethan Suite in Bury, Bealey’s in Radcliffe and at Ramsbottom Civic Hall.

Bury council is offering transport to people who are clinically extremely vulnerable and cannot easily get to the vaccination centres.

The authority hopes to have vaccinated everyone over 50 and all clinically vulnerable people over 16 by May.

By the end of September, it is hoped that everyone aged over 18 and clinically vulnerable people aged 16 and 17 will have received the vaccine.

Frontline health and social care staff are also being vaccinated as priority groups.

Bury's infection rate has fallen steadily in recent weeks and stood at 196 cases per 100,000 people in the week up to February 7.
