Bury street closed and man found injured after 'disturbance' in town centre

A man has been arrested following a "disturbance" which forced police to close a road in Bury town centre.

Silver Street was shut for at least an hour from around 1.30am this morning (Sunday) and officers cordoned off the road between the junctions for Parks Yard and Broad Street.

One man was injured in the incident and an eyewitness reported seeing cars nearby with smashed windows.

Two police vans remained parked in the road for some time and officers were spotted speaking with people leaving bars in the area.

"It looked like something quite bad had happened," the witness said.

"There were loads of police and the road was taped off."

A spokesman for GMP confirmed that one man had been arrested following the incident.

He said: "Police were called at 1.30am this morning to reports of a disturbance at Silver Street in Bury.

"One male at the scene was injured. Another male was arrested and is now in custody.

"The investigation is ongoing."

Anyone with information can call 101, quoting incident number 294 of August 30, 2020.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
