Bury restaurant closes for two weeks after two positive Covid-19 tests

A Whitefield restaurant has been forced to shut after a customer and member of staff tested positive for coronavirus.

All staff at Mezzaluna on Bury New Road are now self-isolating and the restaurant will remain closed for 14 days, owner Francesco Stefanuto confirmed.

It comes after a customer informed the Italian restaurant they had tested positive for Covid-19 at the beginning of last week.

A member of staff then started showing symptoms a few days later and also tested positive for the virus on Friday morning (August 28).

The restaurant closed immediately and is not expected to reopen until September 11.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, owner Francesco Stefanuto said: “We are all in self-isolation at the moment. A customer rang up and said they had tested positive.

“One member of staff had symptoms on Thursday and tested positive on Friday morning.

“We decided to shut because we’re a small restaurant, we’ve all had contact with that particular member of staff.

“The cleaning is one thing, but staff members have to be safe. We have to follow government guidelines.

“We will stay shut for 14 days and do a deep clean before reopening.”

Currently, the NHS Test and Trace system instructs anyone who has been in contact with a person who has coronavirus to stay at home for 14 days.

This is because it can take up to 14 days for Covid-19 symptoms to appear.

They cannot leave their home for any reason or have visitors in their home, except for essential care.
