Bury FC captain Neil Danns sends strong message to EFL on BT Sport

Bury captain Neil Danns has sent a strong message to the EFL, urging the governing body to 'do the right thing' and reverse the decision to expel the club from the Football League.

The Shakers lost their League One status on Tuesday after a proposed takeover from C&N Sporting Risk collapsed just over an hour before the 5pm deadline.

Since then, the club have tried to get the decision reversed, with a £7m offer on the table from elsewhere, but the EFL have stood firm on their decision.

In an appearance live on BT Sport on Saturday morning, Danns questioned that stance and criticised the EFL for the part they have played in Bury's downfall.

“I know the club is trying to work with the EFL. At this moment in time, there’s a bigger picture here. It’s about communities, the fans there, they’re the most important people.

“The EFL have a duty of care to monitor these clubs and make sure they are spending within their means. There has to be rules in play and they have to be governed a lot more stricter.

“Everyone knows our owner bought the club for £1, is that really feasible?

“The EFL could have done the right thing because there’s now a genuine bid for the football club to be saved. The EFL owe it, not just to Bury FC but for the fans, because Steve Dale got past their tests and hasn’t paid the players for six months.

“The EFL can learn a lot from this, the football clubs can learn a lot from this. Hopefully that can help the future of lower leagues.”
