Bury Council plan to place two shipping containers within Hoyles Park to store sports equipment

Plans have been submitted to place two shipping containers next to playing fields at a park to store sports and pitch care materials.

Bury Council has applied for planning permission to put the two six metre by 2.5 metre steel containers on a grassed area of Hoyles Park, Huntley Mount Road, Bury.

The containers, which would be placed close to the car park, off Thrush Drive, would store sports equipment and machinery and materials used to maintain the nearby football pitches.

A planning application has been lodged within the last week by the council.

It states: “The site is grassland and playing fields.

“The proposal is to site two shipping containers to store sports equipment on the grass area for pitch care materials and equipment associated with the use of the playing fields for sports, including football.

“Hoyles Park is is approximately eight acres in size and is in Bury East in the heart of the Chesham Fold community.

“It is approximately 1.5 miles from Bury town centre and is classed as a local community park.

“The proposed installation of the two steel, green containers shall be on the northern part of the site adjacent to the playing fields.”

Recently Hoyles Park was allocated £140,000 of council funds to be spent in 2021/22 to have the play areas refurbished.

Other work included in the funding included painting railings.

The park has retained a Green Flag award since 2010 which recognises excellence in green space management and measures criteria such as cleanliness, maintenance, sustainability, community involvement, heritage, nature conservation, health, safety, security and overall management.
