Bury bar, restaurant and takeaway food hygiene ratings

It's impossible to resist a takeaway from time to time.

So not to spoil the experience, its best to know all about where you are getting yours from.

While reviews are often the first thing people head for - or even just the try it and see method - looking at the food hygiene ratings of the establishments may also be a good thing to check out too.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is required by law to give a hygiene rating of up to five to all places where food is supplied, sold or consumed.

The ratings, where five is the best and zero in indicates that urgent improvement is required, looks at everything from how food is stored and the handling of food to the cleanliness of the facilities but is not a guide to food quality.

The food hygiene rating scheme also doesn't provide information on customer service, culinary skill, presentation and comfort which is where you'll find reviews elsewhere come in handy.

The food hygiene rating or inspection result given to a business reflects the standards of food hygiene found on the date of inspection or visit by the local authority.

But what do the inspectors look for?

When they attend a business, they'll check how hygienically the food is handles, the physical condition of the business and how it manages ways of keeping food safe.

Below you can use the interactive widget to look at the best and worst  FSA hygiene rating for takeaways and restaurants where you live by entering your postcode.
