Burton boss Nigel Clough says the pressure is all on Sunderland this evening

Burton Albion boss Nigel Clough insists the pressure is all on Sunderland this evening as the two sides meet in League One.

The Black Cats moved level on points with second placed Barnsley on Saturday as goals from Charlie Wyke and George Honeyman sealed a vital win over Rochdale.

Should they avoid defeat in the first of their two games in hand this evening at the Stadium of Light, they will move into the automatic promotion places.

Burton arrive on Wearside on the back of three successive wins but given they are 10 points adrift of the play-off places, promotion is probably out of reach.

And Clough believes that means his side can enjoy playing with the freedom of knowing that the pressure is all on the Black Cats.

"With two games in hand people will be looking at them to win," Clough told Burton's official website.

“We are polar opposites Sunderland and ourselves. There is a big, big difference which is reflected across crowds, wage bills and everything.

“There are only teams like Accrington, Rochdale and Wimbledon who are like ourselves and it’s a big challenge to keep the club competitive and it’s quite remarkable how the chairman has done it over so many years.

“I think it’s just one to go and enjoy. It’s the biggest stadium in the league by a mile so we want to just go there and play. We are in a position where we can go and do that and relax. We can enjoy it and give everything with a similar kind of performance to Barnsley on Saturday.”
