Burton Albion's stance on Bolton Wanderers game after Sheffield Wednesday match postponed

Burton Albion say that the club still expects its home League One clash next week against Bolton Wanderers to go ahead as planned at this time.

Wanderers are poised to take on the Brewers at the Pirelli Stadium on the evening of Wednesday, December 29.

Ian Evatt's side were last in action on December 11 on the road against Accrington Stanley and have seen their next two games called off owing to a Covid-19 outbreak in the Wanderers camp.

A total of 18 people - including four football staff members and 14 players - have tested positive for the illness, including Bolton boss Evatt himself.

The Brewers too have had two games postponed owing to positive Covid-19 cases, firstly against MK Dons and now the Boxing Day clash against Sheffield Wednesday.

Those games have had to be called off owing to positive cases in both the Brewers, Dons and Owls squads.

Now, the Brewers have said that despite the Boxing Day encounter versus Wednesday has now been postponed, upcoming clashes on December 29 against Wanderers and New Year's Day when they take on Crewe Alexandra, are still expected to go ahead as planned from their perspective.

A statement on the Burton club website read: "Burton Albion’s Sky Bet League One fixture at Sheffield Wednesday on Boxing Day has been postponed.

"The game will be moved to a new date due to a number of positive COVID-19 cases in both teams’ squads.

"A rearranged date for the fixture will be confirmed in due course and fans are asked to retain tickets until the new date is announced. Refunds will then be issued to anyone unable to attend the new date.

"This postponement does not affect our home games on December 29 when we play Bolton Wanderers and on January 1 when we play Crewe.

"Tickets are on sale for both these matches with Burton Albion expecting them to go ahead as planned."
