Burt Reynolds’ Over-The-Top 2000 Christmas Tree Is The Joyful Maximalist Design Inspiration We Need Now: How To Achieve This Fully Layered Look

Burt Reynolds.

The maximalists among us will be the first to admit: more is more when it comes to Christmas tree decor. That's why, when we saw Burt Reynolds' tree from 2000, we felt a certain kinship with the actor.

As displayed for an auction at Merv Griffin's 7th Annual Christmas Tree Lane Lighting Ceremony and Live Auction of Trees, Burt's tree features beaded garlands, playful ornaments, and white lights, with a showstopping angel topper accenting the green pines. It's giving us some fabulous Christmas tree ideas to say the least.

The nostalgic, collaged look is huge for the 2025 season, and part of its appeal is how customizable and easy to replicate it is. Start with a prelit tree for ease (we have been loving this Wayfair one), then add some colorful garlands (these ones from Walmart are a steal at under $5). Adorn with ornaments and a whimsical tree topper, like this heirloom-worthy angel from Target, and you're set.

'I love Burt Reynolds’ 2000 Christmas tree because it perfectly captures the maximalist spirit, bold, playful, and full of personality. Seeing his nostalgic, over-the-top decor gives me so many ideas for how to recreate a similarly whimsical tree at home,' comments Megan Slack, the head of Celebrity Style at Homes & Gardens.

'The mix of beaded garlands, colorful ornaments, and a showstopping angel topper is inspiring and surprisingly achievable. I can’t wait to start layering textures and colors on my own tree to get that same fun, festive energy.'
