A burst water pipe has closed a road in both directions as people put out flood defences in front of their homes.
Emergency services were made aware of the burst pipe on Whitehedge Road in Cressington just after 6pm on Friday, December, 16. Merseyside Police attended the scene to close the road in both directions as the water spread down the road.
A spokesperson from Merseyside Police : "Due to unforeseen circumstances of a burst pipe we are expecting delays on the junction of Whitehedge Road and Long Lane, Cressington. This is likely to cause highway disruption therefore we recommend finding an alternative route. We apologise for any inconvenience course."

Later a drainage vehicle arrived at the scene to try and clear away as much water as possible. People living on the road have now put out gelbags to stop their properties being flooded.
One eyewitness said: "It’s draining a long way down the road and it’ll be terrible if it freezes tonight. I hope they're able to get as much of the water away as possible so it stays safe for people walking and cars."
People are being advised to avoid the area this evening while teams work to remove the excess water.
