Burst water main leads to flooding chaos in Old Swan

A burst water main has left floods of water pouring through Old Swan.

This video, captured by resident Steve Massey, shows the dramatic scene on Derby Lane.

Traffic is being diverted around the flood this morning amid efforts to fix the problem.

Prescot Road is closed in both directions - from Tesco to Booth Street - because of the burst main.

Traffic monitoring service INRIX is reporting part of the road has collapsed and that Merseyside Police is among the services advising the road will remain closed for most of the day.

The leak emerged on Saturday, with water company United Utilities reporting at 4.15am today: "A leak on Prescot Road affecting customers in L13, has been spotted and reported to us. We currently have our inspectors on site investigating the leak.

"Our leakage engineers should be on site as soon as possible. We’re sorry for the inconvenience."

The leak has led to changes to bus services in the area with Merseytravel advising several routes have been affected.

One tweet said: "A burst water main in Old Swan area is causing diversions on buses services 10/10/10B.

"From Liverpool city centre travelling as normal to Prescot Road, then diverting on to Green Lane, West Derby Road, Queens Drive to Navigator Pub then back on normal route. Same for reverse."
