Burst water main in Shirehampton causing long delays which could last for days

A burst water main is causing traffic problems in Shirehampton this evening - and it could continue causing disruption for days.

The large leak, on a main on Lower High Street near to Penpole Lane was reported by a customer this shortly after 11am today (September 6).

Bristol Water confirmed the road has been damaged by the significant leak.

Their engineers are working at the scene and have put temporary traffic lights in place.

It is not clear if the burst main is affecting the water supply for nearby residents.

Drivers are advised to find alternative routes where possible to avoid the delays.

Repairs to the damaged road will also need to be carried out.

The latest estimate from Bristol Water is that the incident will be resolved on Tuesday, September 10.
