Burst water main floods road in Leigh - police have blocked it off

A burst water main has flooded a road in Leigh.

Warrington Road is currently closed off from the Greyhound Island roundabout to Greenfold Way.

Pictures taken at the scene show a huge pool of water flooding the road.

The road has been taped off by police and is blocked by cones.

Police are urging people to avoid the area and take an alternative route.

Engineers have been made aware of the incident.

In a tweet, an officer from GMP Traffic said: "Road flooded on Warrington Road near to Green Fold Way @GMPLeigh. 

"Please find an alternative route.  Road closed in both directions. 

"Council & utilities are aware."

Transport for Greater Manchester tweeted: "Warrington Road, Leigh closed from The Greyhound Rbt to Greenfold Way.

"This is due to a burst water main.

"Engineers have been made aware."
