A burst water main caused damage to businesses and left a large hole on a busy road.
This was the scene on Long Street in Middleton after the burst.
United Utilities said it fixed the water main and is helping businesses clean up their premises after suffering water damage.
Pictures from the scene showed the hole is on one side of the street, near Middleton town centre.
Workmen created the hole to fix the burst.
