Burst pipe causes flooding on the Felling Bypass as homes left without water

Flooding off the Felling Bypass has left some homes in Gateshead without any water for several hours.

Workmen are currently repairing a burst pipe, which occurred near the Evans Halshaw Vauxhall dealership and the branch of McDonald's on Monday.

It has left homes on nearby estates, such as St James' Village, without a water supply until at least later this afternoon.

Several locals on the estate have took to Facebook to share their frustrations.

In a text seen by ChronicleLive to customers, Northumbrian Water wrote: "We are working on restoring a water supply issue in your area.

"Not all customers will be affected, and we expect the supply to be restored by 4.35pm.

"Thank you for your patience."

A spokesperson for the firm has since confirmed that technicians are on site and that all the affected customers had been sent a text message.
