Burnt-out van dumped on forestry track near Stirling reservoir

A burnt-out transit van was discovered near Stirling’s North Third Reservoir at the weekend.

A walker discovered the charred frame of the vehicle on a forestry track about 1km south east of the reservoir on Saturday afternoon.

During lockdown flytipping has increased in the Polmaise Road area with residents complaining about rubbish being casually left by the roadway.

Torbrex residents got in touch with the Observer in April after numerous beer cans and bottles were discarded by the roadway giving the impression a massive party had taken place.

Household rubbish has also been thrown over walls and into open ground.

Torbrex resident Frank Schmidt told the Observer this week: “I was out for a walk on Saturday afternoon.

“When I found the van about 3pm I could still feel the heat radiating from inside the vehicle.

“I’m guessing that it was set on fire on Friday night.

“Things have improved in recent months, following publicity in the Observer, and efforts have been made to clean the area up.

“Gillies Hill and Polmaise Road are visibly cleaner than they were.

“Unfortunately, this is not the case for North Third Reservoir. Some areas remain worse than others I’m afraid.”

A Stirling Police Scotland spokesperson said this week: “The van was traced by officers.

“There was nothing to identify the vehicle due to the damage.

“The council have been contacted to uplift the vehicle.”
