Burnt out remains of house shows scale of devastation after massive fire

Firefighters tackled a huge blaze that engulfed a house in Halewood last night.

Devastating images show what is left of the building after it went up in flames at around 7.14pm on Monday, May 31.

Images sent to the ECHO show the whole building on fire with bright orange flames and smoke billowing into the air.

Photographs captured after the fire had been put out appear to show only the blackened beams remaining, as the scale of the devastation is clear.

The property, on Gerrards Lane, in Halewood, is believed to have been under construction at the time of the fire.

At the height of the fire, crews from four fire engines fought to put out the flames at the house.

There are no reports of any injuries and a spokeswoman from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service confirmed fire crews were at the scene within six minutes.

A Merseyside Fire and Rescue service spokesperson told the ECHO last night: "Crews were alerted at 7.14pm and on scene at 7.20pm.

"Four fire engines and the combined platform ladder (CPL) were in attendance at the height of the fire.

"The fire involves a detached property that is believed to be under construction.

"Firefighters are fighting the fire externally due to the structural integrity of the building. The CPL is being used as a water tower.

"The incident is ongoing but has been scaled down to two fire engines and the CPL."

An investigation into the cause of the fire will now be carried out.
