Burnt-out caravan discovered in "dumping ground" Glenkens layby

A burnt-out caravan has been discovered in a layby used as a “dumping ground” in the Glenkens.

Martin Anderson discovered the remains on the A702 near Corriedoo when returning home to Moniaive from Dalry.

But despite reporting the matter to the council shortly after he found it on Thursday morning, he still hadn’t received even an acknowledgement by Tuesday.

Mr Anderson said: “Usually you get a reference number but I haven’t had anything.

“I would have thought the council would want to move it, not just because it is a mess but it’s also an environmental hazard.

“That layby is used as a dumping ground.

“Another occasion I was there and someone who had carried out a house clearance had tipped out everything there.

“When I told the council about that, the lady told me it was a dumping ground – if they know that why haven’t they done anything about it?

“They could have put some concrete blocks in to stop people using it. There is one in the same area that is just as bad.”

A council spokesman insisted they had received no email from Mr Anderson and if they had he would have received an automatic response.

He added: “We have been made aware of the caravan via another report though and are in the process or dealing with the caravan and littering in the layby.

“The littering has been tidied up by Community Assets. The caravan removal requires the assistance of a third-party contractor.

“As such, we are waiting for them to confirm a timescale for removal.”
