Burnt out car found less than a mile from double shooting scene

A burnt-out car was found close to the scene of a double shooting in Croxteth which left two men in hospital last night.

The vehicle, a blue BMW, was found charred and dumped on Willow Way , less than a mile from the scene of the shooting on Regal Road.

At this point it is unknown whether the car is linked to the shooting and Merseyside Police have been approached for comment.

Shortly before 6pm on Thursday night, emergency services were called to Regal Road in Croxteth to reports of a shooting.

As armed officers descended on the area, paramedics and an air ambulance rushed to the scene.

Two men were found injured at a mid-terrace property on the road, one with a gunshot wound to the stomach and a second man shot in the hip.

People living in the area sent pictures and video to the ECHO showing huge crowds in the street as the air ambulance took off from a car park on nearby Stonebridge Lane.

The two victims were rushed to hospital as police launched their investigation into the incident, setting up a cordon and establishing a scene around the location where the men were shot.

After armed officers left the area, a cordon was put in place by officers who a were the first to arrive at the scene.

This was quickly extended from Regal Road to include Chalice Way to Sovereign Way, by forensic officers who arrived a short time later.

A large number of officers, forensic support and detectives could be seen within the cordon which was used to stop residents moving around the road and contaminating evidence.

Around two hours after the shooting, officers from Merseyside Police 's dog section were called to the scene to remove a dog from a property to allow officers to work within the house.

Matrix officers arrived at around 8.30pm after three forensics had conducted their first search within the cordon.

An inch by inch search was then carried out which saw officers looking under cars and in the front gardens of the homes on the street.

A large forensic tent was put in place later in the evening to preserve evidence as officers continued to work late into the night.

Photos taken on Regal Road this morning show a forensic tent erected in the front garden of a property with a police presence still at the scene.
