Burns victim 'taken in most brutal way' says grief stricken family as they bid to raise funeral cash

The family of a man who died after being found with severe burns from a 'corrosive substance' have spoken of their loss.

Michael McElhinney, 26, died in hospital last week after being found severely injured in a Clydebank high rise.

His family say the incident happened within a high rise property in Dunswin Court, Clydebank on Friday, June 4.

Michael underwent surgery for severe injuries and was placed in an induced coma, but sadly Police Scotland confirmed he died on Friday.

In a fundraising post on gofundme, Deen said: "Michael was sadly taken away from us in one of the most brutal ways anyone could ever have imagined."

He added: "Michael was kind, he was generous if he had something to give he would give. He was always the first person to be there and help anyone no, matter the situation.

"He was a father, son, brother, cousin and friend. Michael was a fighter and that followed him till the very end he didn't leave without a fight."

The family have since launched a fundraiser to go towards funeral costs, already smashing their target of £1,000 in a few days.

At the time of writing, the fundraiser was sitting at almost £2,000.

Deen wrote: "Michael didn't deserve to pass away how he did, no one does. And this will be the one last thing we can do for Michael is give him the best send off we're able to do.

"As a family we have taken the decision to set up a GoFundMe page to give Michael the best send off anyone could dream of. If there is one last good thing we can do for Michael it will be his send off!

"I know there's a lot of people going to want to attend the funeral when it comes but we also don't know if we'll be allowed because of the current situation."
