Burnley want Nottingham Forest skipper Joe Worrall but may wait until the summer

Burnley remain keen on Nottingham Forest skipper Joe Worrall but may keep their transfer cash until the summer.

The Turf Moor club were recently taken over by new US owners ALK Capital.

The American investors have funds for new players and Forest stopper Worrall, 24, is a long term target.

But the club's new owners are aware January is not an ideal time to invest as prices are inflated.

There is also less pressure to buy following Burnley's improved form, which has lifted them seven points clear of the drop zone.

Sean Dyche's side have won four of their last eight Premier League games – including stunning Liverpool at Anfield on Thursday.

Dyche still likes Worrall with a view to grooming him as a long-term successor to regular defenders Ben Mee,31, and James Tarkowski, who has top-flight admirers.

But Worrall, an ever-present last term for the Championship Reds, is now captain at the City Ground and the Reds are demanding at least £10million for their former trainee.

Dyche previously tried to sign 6ft 4in Worrall from Forest in January 2018 and was interested in the last window.
