Burnley vs Tottenham postponed handing Leeds United relegation zone reprieve

Burnley’s Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur at Turf Moor has been called off, saving Leeds United from potentially dropping into the relegation zone.

The match was due to kick off at 2pm this afternoon, but snow has been falling on the Lancashire ground and it was decided that the match should be postponed.

Burnley’s official Twitter account posted just after 1pm today: “Due to concerns with the playing surface and surrounding areas, it’s been deemed that the game can’t go ahead safely.”

An illustrative video was also posted by Sky Sports on their Twitter account which showed the immense effort made by many people to try and clear the pitch but which ultimately proved futile.

The video also showed someone rolling a snowman, Spurs boss Antonio Conte being dusted with snow, and Burnley boss Sean Dyche standing by the side of the pitch in his shirt-sleeves with a big grin on his face.

Burnley are currently at third-bottom in the top division on nine points, but have a goal difference which is two better than Leeds.

Leeds meanwhile are sitting in 17th place on 12 points, which meant that if Burnley had won they would have gone ahead of Leeds, and the Whites would have dropped into the relegation zone.

There has been no announcement about when the match will be rescheduled for.

Leeds next play in the Premier League against Crystal Palace at Elland Road on Tuesday night, while Burnley are next playing against Wolves at Molineux on Wednesday night.
