Burnley vs Man City predictions: Pundits agree on Premier League result

Manchester City will look to re-establish their three-point lead at the top of the Premier League table when they travel to Sean Dyche's Burnley on Wednesday night.

City have been in excellent form of late, winning their last eight league games. They have not lost since a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on November 21.

City earned yet another clean sheet in their 1-0 victory over Sheffield United at the weekend. It is their fifth in their last five games, a clear illustration of the defensive improvement Pep Guardiola and his players have made.

Gabriel Jesus scored the crucial winning goal, while the absence of Kevin de Bruyne has hardly been felt by a team that seems to be clicking into its highest gear.

And City are expected to continue their recent onslaught on the Premier League against Burnley on Wednesday, with the pundits in agreement that Burnley will struggle to hang onto the leader's coattails.

Writing in his Bet Victor column, Michael Owen predicts a 2-0 win for City, who he says "have their foot on the gas".

"Burnley went down 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday and face another big test when they host Manchester City," he wrote.

"City really have their foot on the gas just now and they’ll be targeting nothing less than three points here before Sunday’s big match against Liverpool.

"On their day, Burnley can be tough to play against, however, I think City will have too much in this one."

And BBC Sport pundit Mark Lawrenson is in complete agreement with the former Liverpool striker, also predicting a 2-0 City win.

"Burnley were a bit subdued against Chelsea on Sunday and maybe their efforts against Aston Villa and Liverpool in the past few days caught up with them," he wrote.

"This will be another tough evening for the Clarets - City have got a great record against them recently, winning their past seven meetings, and Pep Guardiola's side are playing well at the moment. They keep on winning too."

City will be without De Bruyne and Nathan Ake, who continue their rehab from injury.

Sergio Aguero is still a few weeks away from returning after testing positive for the coronavirus earlier this year.

They will be looking to match the club record with six straight clean sheets, while they have now kept 20 clean sheets in all competitions, five more than any other team in Europe's top-five leagues.
