Brighton 0-5 Bournemouth, Burnley 2-0 Cardiff and more – as it happened

And with that, I’m done. You can find all the scores here and the league tables here. Bye!

Neil Warnock’s post-match chat features a disappointingly small amount of fire and brimstone:

Disappointed really. I thought we played quite well, especially second half. Half time I said we’d been a bit apprehensive first half, so let’s step up now.

He’s asked about the penalty incident:

I’ve no view at all thanks. I’m already seeing the FA three times this week. No thanks, no comment. I’m disappointed it’s not given. I’ll be asking the referee, obviously. The fourth official told me that Mike hadn’t seen it. I thought it was a pen. We’re disappointed that Gunnarson didn’t get a penalty for being pulled down. We felt that was a penalty as well. So, a little bit unlucky today … My lads keep getting kicked in the teeth this season, time and time again. I might be smiling but I’m gutted underneath.

Still want more? Rob Smyth is all over Manchester United v West Ham, here:

Here’s a report on Fulham’s victory over Everton:

Fulham secured just a fifth Premier League win of the season as Scott Parker’s side outplayed Everton at Craven Cottage.

After their immediate relegation back to the Championship was confirmed last time out at Watford, the home team ran out as deserved 2-0 victors. Captain Tom Cairney opened the scoring with just the second Premier League goal of his career and his first since scoring against Everton for Hull in March 2010, before Ryan Babel wrapped up a rare win for the home side.

Much more here:

If you watch this without any volume, there is no way you could tell the team you’re watching hadn’t just been relegated. Even with the volume on it sounds pretty dreary.

Louise Taylor was at Turf Moor to see Burnley beat Cardiff:

At least an afternoon featuring a referee’s change of heart over the award of a penalty, a player booked for kissing an opponent and two headed goals for Burnley’s Chris Wood was never dull.

If it was a little bad-tempered at times it probably reflected the tension of a relegation “six pointer” which ended with the home side all but safe mathematically from relegation and Cardiff travelling to Brighton on Tuesday knowing anything less than victory will surely extinguish their slim hopes of staying in the Premier League.

Much more here:

According to Sky Sports News, police are investigating an alleged assault by Joey Barton, Fleetwood Town’s manager, on the Barnsley manager Daniel Stendel in the tunnel after the match today. Barnsley won 4-2, and Fleetwood had a man sent off in the second half.

Paul Doyle saw Southampton streak to victory against Wolves:

Two goals by Nathan Redmond and another by Shane Long took Southampton closer to fulfilling the survival mission that was entrusted to Ralph Hasenhüttl in December. Saints were floundering in 18th position when the Austrian replaced Mark Hughes as manager and had a solitary Premier League win for the season. Since then they have been transformed and this win, their eighth in the league under Hasenhüttl, could have been even more emphatic.

Much more here:

Ed Aarons was on hand to witness Bournemouth’s rout of Brighton:

If Brighton don’t end up surviving a second season in the Premier Leaguethen Chris Hughton will know they have no one to blame but themselves.

Goals from Dan Gosling, Ryan Fraser, David Brooks, Callum Wilson and substitute Junior Stanislas handed the points to a Bournemouth side who had only won once since the 4-0 victory over Chelsea at the end of January on an afternoon when their opponents barely mustered a shot on target as Anthony Knockaert was sent off. Only the intervention of the referee in Cardiff’s last two matches has meant that a dangerous situation has not become more critical for Hughton as they lost a second successive match at home and now face a crucial meeting with Neil Warnock’s side here on Tuesday. On this evidence, they will be up against it.

Luton’s long, long unbeaten record is gone, gone. They lost 3-1 at Charlton but are still five points clear at the top of League One, with Barnsley now in second. Sunderland, who lost 4-5 to Coventry in a ludicrous-sounding match, and Portsmouth, who beat Rochdale 4-1, are both two points behind Barnsley and seven behind Luton, but both have a game in hand.

“Things did change in the second half of Huesca-Barcelona,” writes Charles Antaki. “It got worse. 0-0.”

Wild scenes at Morpeth, where a 3-1 win over Pontefract Collieries guarantees glory.

Congratulations to Torquay United, promoted to the National League after 2-0 victory over Eastbourne. Commiserations to Aldershot Town and Havant & Waterlooville, who have both been relegated from the National League.

Lincoln City are promoted to League One

Lincoln have also drawn 1-1 at home, but Sky’s cameras show very low-key celebrations there. They obviously don’t know that MK Dons have lost 2-1 at Tranmere and Mansfield have been held at Northampton, and they are therefore up!

Ipswich Town are relegated from the Championship

It’s all over at Ipswich in every sense, where a 1-1 draw against Birmingham is not enough to save them!

Millwall have equalised against Sheffield United after all! Cooper heads in the loose ball after a save! It’s 1-1 there, in stoppage time.

Premier League final scores

Brighton 0-4 Bournemouth
Burnley 1-0 Cardiff
Southampton 3-1 Wolves

Only Fulham v Everton remains ongoing – they’re playing eight minutes of stoppage time there.

That Woods goal is the easiest he will ever score. McNeil’s cross-shot comes off Bamba’s toe, loops up off the goalkeeper and Woods heads it over the line from about an inch out!

GOAL! Burnley 2-0 Cardsiff (Wood, 90+2 mins)

Cardiff have huffed, they have puffed, they have been rebuffed – there was another very decent penalty claim a couple of minutes ago – and now they’re stuffed!

Talking of the Championship promotion race, Sheffield United have just enjoyed a massive let-off, Millwall missing a penalty. The Blades lead 1-0.

Derby are a puzzlingly inconsistent side. They have won two games in the last two months, but today they’re 4-0 up against Bolton and Mason Mount has a hat-trick. Surely he’ll be playing in the Premier League next season, and it could still be with Derby, whose play-off hopes remain alive.

What a weekend this has been for Watford, whose rivals for seventh place – Leicester, Everton and Wolves – are all either losing or have already lost. They need to get something from the visit of Arsenal on Monday before they get too excited, mind.

Another goal at the Stadium of Light, and Coventry are back in the lead! It’s Sunderland 4-5 Coventry! As it stands Barnsley who are 4-2 up against 10-man Fleetwood, will go second with Sunderland dropping out of the automatic promotion places.

GOAL! Brighton 0-4 Bournemouth (Wilson, 82 mins)

Another assist for Fraser, and Brighton’s day just keeps on getting worse. Fraser’s pass wasn’t a great one, but Wilson managed to bring it under control, turn and get a shot away, which a self-respecting defence would probably have done something about.

Cheltenham have equalised against Lincoln, but the Imps still stand to celebrate promotion today because Mansfield and MK Dons aren’t winning.

Mee very nearly rubbed salt into Cardiff’s wounds by heading towards the top corner from a corner, but the keeper tips it round the post.

Now it’s Charlton 3-1 Luton, and that unbeaten record is on its last legs!

Luton Town, unbeaten in a gazillion games dating back to 13 October, are 2-1 down at Charlton now! And Sunderland have equalised yet again – it’s 4-4 now between them and Coventry!

GOAL! Brighton 0-3 Bournemouth (Brooks, 74 mins)

A lovely, speedy Bournemouth move takes the ball from the goalkeeper and downfield. Brooks plays a one-two with Fraser which absolutely dismantles the home defence, and passes through the keeper’s legs!

GOAL! Southampton 3-1 Wolves (Long, 71 mins)

Shane Long can’t stop scoring! Ward-Prowse takes a corner from the left, which is poorly headed away by Jonny. Yoshida tries an overhead which hits a defender and rebounds to him, and this time – while halfway up and halfway down – he prods it through to Long, who is unmarked and has an easy finish! Jonny’s defensive header there was truly hopeless.

GOAL! Fulham 2-0 Everton (Babel, 69 mins)

The ball is passed to Babel, just inside Everton’s half but on the burst. And he just keeps on bursting, outpacing Everton’s way-too-high defence, drawing the keeper and then tucking it away!

Here’s a report on SPAL’s first victory over Juventus since the 1950s:

Portsmouth have restored their two-goal lead against Rochdale, Gareth Evans making the score 3-1.

At Turf Moor, Cardiff are playing excellently this half, but are being let down by an absolute and total inability to score. Junior Hoilett is the latest culprit, running onto a pull-back and crashing a first-time shot absolutely miles high from the penalty spot.

Sunderland v Coventry is turning into a wild goalfest. Coventry were 1-0 up before Sunderland equalised, 3-1 up before Sunderland equalised, and now they’re 4-3 up!

This is a good stat:

“As a service to the nation, I can report what happens when you replace experienced, top class players with inexperienced, not yet top-class players and pit them against will-never-be-top-class players in the league’s bottom team,” writes Charles Antaki. “Huesca v Barcelona second XI is absolutely dire.”

It’s goalless there at half-time.

“Please don’t let your loyal readers forget about where the day’s real action is: League One, both at the top and the bottom,” pleads Matt Loten. “Sunderland and Coventry have scored three apiece in the first half at the Stadium of Light, and with the mighty Portsmouth and Barnsley both two up in their respective games, it looks like the race to join Luton in the Championship will go right to the wire. It’s no less exciting at the bottom of the table, where Walsall, Wimbledon, Rochdale and Southend are among seven or eight teams who could end the day in the relegations places. Very few upsets at the moment, but everything could change between now and 4.45.”

A quick update to all that: Rochdale have just pulled a goal back at Portsmouth, whose lead is now 2-1.

GOAL! Brighton 0-2 Bournemouth (Fraser, 55 mins)

That’s a lovely finish! Wilson bursts into the Brighton half from the right and passes across to Fraser, who collects and then sends a shot dipping over the keeper and into the top left corner! His left foot slipped just as he was swinging his right, which probably helped to add a bit of dip, curve and random direction to the ball.

“Mike Dean got that right,” says Roy Allen. “Neither incident was a handball. The officials got there in the end. Of course, under VAR it would have been a penalty but then every hand/ball contact is.” I agree. The ball definitely hit Mee’s hand twice in 30 seconds, but neither was in any way deliberate.

Cardiff don’t have a penalty! The referee goes to talk to his linesman, and is persuaded to change his mind! There was a shot that hit Mee’s arm, but it was not in an unnatural position and there was no move towards the ball. Then it’s crossed back in, Mee heads it into his right hand, and this one the referee spots – but Burnley get away with it!

A couple of minutes past four, and we’re back in action!

“The Burnley v Cardiff game is a very nice bad-tempered affair,” reports JR. “There’s a whole bunch of red-ass players on display doing all sorts. I feel that Mike Dean should have handed out his 101st red card to Ashley Barnes who got in Joe Bennett’s grille and kissed him twice. Yes, you heard me right. Anyway, Deano only dished out a yellow but I think surely someone will walk in the second half.”

SPAL have indeed beaten Juventus 2-1. Juve need one more win to become champions, but will do so if Napoli fail to beat Chievo tomorrow.

Something for the highlights:

And that’s half-time. The big scores you need to know:

Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0 Zorya Luhansk (Dynamo Kyiv won 1-0 earlier today)
Huesca 0-0 Barcelona (not quite half-time there)
SPAL 2-1 Juventus (almost finished there)
Mornar 0-1 Buducnost Podgorica
Sutjeska 1-0 Lovcen

SPAL are 2-1 up against Juventus now, and the title Champagne might have to go on ice for a week or so.

Ashley Westwood could have scored twice for Burnley, but doesn’t seem inclined to convert one-on-ones today. Also, Southampton should have scored a third against Wolves but Sims puts a simple chance wide!

GOAL! Brighton 0-1 Bournemouth (Gosling, 33 mins)

A decent spell of Brighton attacking ends with Bournemouth running down the other end and scoring! They totally befuddle the Brighton defence, finding Wilson in space on the right of the area and instead of shooting he squares to Gosling, who could have passed again to players either right or left, but instead spins and scores himself!

“That Harvey Elliott autograph looks more like something he would put at the top of a homework assignment,” says Peter Oh. “Credit to him he crossed his t’s but he forgot to dot the i. He’s just a kid. He’ll learn.”

Look who’s turned up at Fulham today. There are a disappointing lack of promotions on the Mourinho CV – could he be tempted to take on the Championship? Let the foundation-free speculation begin!

Birmingham have gone a goal up against apparently relegation-bound Ipswich, who will be officially demoted if they don’t win.

Doherty weaves through the Southampton defence, but he eventually runs out of space. Then a corner comes to him, but he has to turn his back to goal to control it, and the chance is gone.

That’s what a football pitch is supposed to look like at this time of year. None of these unnatural Premier League-style bowling greens.

Burnley have already cracked the woodwork! They didn’t literally crack it, to be fair, but Chris Wood’s header from four yards out hit the meat of the post with the goalkeeper nowhere!

Here’s the Barcelona team to play Huesca today. They have outdone Juventus by making 10 changes to the side that played Manchester United on Wednesday, with only Ter Stegen keeping his place. The 19-year-old French defender Jean-Clair Todibo and the 20-year-old right-back Moussa Wagué make their first-team debuts, while the highly-rated Riqui Puig and the on-loan Colombian Jeison Murillo make their La Liga debuts.

Tottenham have gone 4-0 up against Huddersfield in stoppage time, Lucas Moura completing his hat-trick.

I’m not sure if sports photographers, like nature documentary makers, have a moral obligation to leave everything as they found it, to simply observe rather than to interfere. I suspect they probably should. But I fear that this programme didn’t take itself onto the pitch before leaning against a goalpost. Still, nice cover.

Juventus have named their starting line-up, which includes 17-year-old centre-back Paolo Gozzi (he turns 18 later this month), who makes his first-team debut. Grigoris Kastanos, a 21-year-old Cypriot who has been on the bench three times this season but has not played a single minute in Serie A, also starts, as does 19-year-old Moise Kean. They make nine changes from the team that started against Ajax on Tuesday: Joao Cancelo and Rodrigo Bentancur keep their places.

Hello world!

Let’s not beat around the bush. There are lots of games to be played today, with big 3pm kick-offs at home and abroad. Here are the key games (all 3pm starts unless stated):

Premier League

Brighton v Bournemouth

Burnley v Cardiff

Fulham v Everton

Man Utd v West Ham (5.30pm)

Southampton v Wolverhampton

Tottenham Hotspur v Huddersfield (12.30pm)

Championship

One big issue could be resolved this afternoon: if Ipswich fail to beat Birmingham they will be relegated. They could still be relegated this weekend if Reading (at home to Brentford), Millwall (at Sheffield United) and Wigan (who host Norwich tomorrow) all win (if they all get a point and Ipswich win Paul Lambert’s side will not formally be relegated, but they would then require actual miracles).

Aston Villa v Bristol City
Derby v Bolton
Ipswich v Birmingham
Leeds v Sheff Wed (5.30pm)
Middlesbrough v Hull
Nottm Forest v Blackburn
QPR v Swansea
Reading v Brentford
Sheff Utd v Millwall
Stoke v Rotherham
West Brom v Preston North End

League One

Charlton will secure a play-off place if they avoid defeat at home to table-topping Luton. Half the division remain in danger of relegation but there is one big game at the bottom, as 21st-placed Southend host Wycombe, one point and one place above them.

Accrington Stanley v Walsall
Barnsley v Fleetwood Town
Blackpool v Peterborough
Bristol Rovers v Bradford
Charlton v Luton
Doncaster v Plymouth
Gillingham v Shrewsbury
Oxford Utd v AFC Wimbledon
Portsmouth v Rochdale
Scunthorpe v Burton Albion
Southend v Wycombe
Sunderland v Coventry

League Two

Lincoln are top of the table and will be promoted today if they beat mid-table Cheltenham, or if none of Mansfield, MK Dons or Bury win. At the bottom Crawley, six point clear of the bottom two, would take a significant step towards safety if they win at 23rd-placed Yeovil. Defeat, however, and they’ll be back in the mire.

Bury v Colchester
Cambridge Utd v Newport County
Crewe v Notts County
Exeter v Port Vale
Forest Green v Macclesfield
Lincoln City v Cheltenham
Morecambe v Grimsby
Northampton v Mansfield
Oldham v Swindon
Stevenage v Carlisle
Tranmere v Milton Keynes Dons
Yeovil v Crawley Town

The leaders in Italy and Spain are both in action: Juventus kick off at SPAL at 2pm BST, and Barcelona, without the rested Lionel Messi, play Huesca at 3.15pm. Shakhtar Donetsk, who lead Dynamo Kyiv (whose game at Mariupol will end before they kick off, and was goalless at half-time) at the top of the Ukrainian Premier League by seven points, play fifth-placed Zorya Luhansk at 3pm. The top two play the bottom two in the Montenegrin top flight, with Sutjeska hosting Lovcen and Buducnost at Mornar. I apologise to all Montenegrins if I never mention those matches again.
